Formatted dimensions is always smaller amount than the advertised merit, this is an accepted certainty with adjectives storage devices. That number sounds about right for a formatted iPod. The maximum storage dimensions would come out to about 3.6GB, bestow or take. For instance, a 4GB flash drive have a capacity of 3.8GB after it have been formatted.

Given that the iPod have some system files and other stuff that takes some memory, I can see that 3.6GB would be an above-board capacity on the 4GB.

If you still want to format it, download the most modern iPod updater from Apple and select Format instead of Restore. Chance are, it won't change anything and it will still "only" enjoy 3.65GB of storage.
Best thing to do is to move about to the Ipod (apple) website and download the formatter..

Would link you too it but my work blocks it.
The Ipod have to have room to run the operating system and device functions, what you see is middle-of-the-road.
Why can't you just erase the songs within iTunes...a 4 GB iPod probably has 3.65 GB's effect of the software that the iPod uses to run the iPod...My friend has a 2 Gb iPod and with the sole purpose 1.80 Gb's left...
progress to your itunes downloading station and go to music vanished click on the songs you want to delete there you stir more space
