it have to be plugged into the adapter to work and if i unplug it it loses all its memory and resets.

This handheld come out in 2002. If you've have yours even half of that time, it's probably time for a unsullied battery. As the other guy said, rechargeables do not hold their charge forever, they wear out. On the other mitt it could be broken, but the only channel to find out for sure is to put a different charged battery into it and see if it stays on in need the plug.
well battery dont last forever resembling the more they are used the less charge they hold. (just to agree to you know this is desktop area not laptop)
