mac problem?

when i start up my g4 it chimes consequently goes to the white apple eyeshade and the it jumps to the osx loading eyeshade goes really slow the jump to black screen and asks for a login & password ......any design anyone?

I just go through this with m y mom's g4. When you installed osx you have to put in the admin pet name. this is your user name. try differant variation of common password that you use
Can you login to Finder? If you do start on System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and delete any you have never put contained by there. Run the daily/weekly/monthly keep scripts and repair permissions beside Disk Utility that's in your Utilities. Boot from you Install Disc and repair your disc, if any errors show up, run it again until the disc is repaired. If the above steps didn't resolve your problem, after I would suggest you call Apple or if you don't own warranty, post in many Mac forums for help.
